Can Scuba Diving Be a Career?

Your Ad Here

Do you enjoy scuba diving? Would it not it be great to be able to do what you love and make a profit? Fortunately for you, there are many types of diving careers.

The most well known branch of commercial scuba diving is offshore diving. Offshore divers work to support the oil industry. Their work may include building underwater structures to enhance the production process or maintaining the oil platforms. This is often an entry point to the scuba diving industry.

Inland divers are very similar to offshore divers; however their work is usually located in lakes, hydroelectric dams, bridges, and rivers. Their work mainly includes underwater survey and engineering work.

A third type of professional diving is HAZMAT diving. The main tasks for these divers include sewer maintenance, pollution control, repairing damaged pipes, and finding lost objects or bodies.

Nuclear diving is very comparable to HAZMAT diving. However, nuclear diving involves the exposure to radiation instead of a water borne contaminant. Nuclear divers often work in dangerously high water temperature environments.

Scientific diving is a very popular option for career diving. It is one of the least dangerous types of commercial diving. However, most scientific divers must first be a qualified scientist before entering into this field. The three most common sciences that are studied underwater are geology, underwater archeology, and marine biology. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency employs many scientific divers to study the extent and affects of pollution on water quality and underwater organisms.

A form of professional diving that is quickly gaining popularity is media diving. Media diving is used to get underwater photography and film. This media is then used for documentaries, television programs, and even Hollywood movies. Most people who are successful in media diving are also professionally trained cameramen.

If you are in the military, you may have the option of pursuing military or naval diving. Military divers carry out both offensive and defensive studies. Infiltration, sabotage, and underwater demolition are typical maneuvers. However, locating underwater explosives and underwater enemy presence also makes up a significant portion of their work. Naval divers serve a very different function. They are responsible for maintaining and repairing military ships and equipment.

Police diving is another form of commercial diving. The police force uses trained divers to locate criminal evidence or bodies that could be in rivers, lakes, or even the sea. Another aspect of police diving includes checking incoming ships for contraband items that could be attached underneath the water to the hull of the ship.

Finally, you could also become a dive instructor. There are two types of dive instructors: recreational and commercial. Recreational instructors train people who are interested in learning to dive for fun. They often work at vacation areas and resorts. Commercial dive instructors are used to train employees in one of the above categories of commercial diving.

If diving is your passion, you are in luck! You have numerous options to easily turn it into a successful career!

The Dangers Associated with Omega 3 Overdose

Your Ad Here

Omega 3 fats, particularly DHA and EPA, are required for many functions of the body and for the prevention of certain diseases. These fats can be easily obtained through nutritional supplements available in the form of fish oil capsules. However, their daily dosage should be carefully controlled since omega 3 overdose may cause complications and side effects.

One of the most prominent dangers of omega 3 overdose is extremely low blood pressure. It’s a known fact that fats lower blood pressure and bad cholesterol levels in the body, but if taken in large quantities at once they may be dangerous. Diabetic patients are also advised to watch their intake of nutritional supplements and foods rich in these fats.

Because of the same reason, plant oils like flax seed oil and hemp oil that contain good ratio of both omega 3 and omega 6 fats, are not recommended to be taken in large amounts at once. It is advisable to take capsules after a gap of 5 to 6 hours.

Omega 3 overdose can also cause side effects like nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation, headaches and infections. Pregnant women are strongly advised to watch their intake of omega 3 fats, especially if they are taking supplements or fish oil capsules for the treatment of deficiency of these nutrients.

It is always better to consult a doctor before starting the course of a nutritional supplement product. Good quality supplements if taken in normal amounts do not cause any side effects or other complications, but still it’s advisable to check with a doctor or a health specialist to ensure the safety and effectiveness of any nutritional supplement product.

It has been found that supplements that contain more concentration of DHA than EPA are more effective and beneficial for the health. This is because DHA is important for the growth of the nervous system. Always buy these supplements that mention on the bottle or cover how much DHA and EPA are provided by a single capsule.

If you experience any of the above mentioned symptoms, immediately stop taking omega 3 fish oil capsules and see a doctor. Usually people with a sensitive stomach are faced with problems like these and these symptoms automatically go away after a few days. But if you are not comfortable with the results of a particular nutritional supplement product, you should discontinue its usage.

Steve died nearly 28 years ago but is still giving back to society. His presence on the world stage left a legacy that continues to create new legions of fans. Steve is the only endorsee of Tag Heuer watches that is not alive and yet his Monaco watch is still among their best sellers. Starring in movies like ” Le Mans” (in the opinion of many pro drivers one of the best race movies ever made), Bullit (in the opinion of almost everyone who has seen it, one of the best chase scenes ever filmed) and the Great Escape (with the most famous motorcycle stunt ever filmed), Steve became an American Legend.

The crowd was treated to an eclectic and exciting variety of vehicles. There was no shortage of Porsche 356’s – both street and race. Porsches in general, and Mustangs including vintage versions of the Bullit GT350, the GT500, and the Shelby Cobras where the dominant marques. There were also two special Ford Mustangs there, which were used in the pilot of the `Knight Rider’ remake. Not lost among all this fabulous machinery and drawing their share of admirers were my Graphite Gray 1965 Pinanfarina Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce side by side with a 2005 Black Pinanfarina Ferrari Testerossa.

One of the shows major attractions was, Matt Stone and Chad McQueen doing a joint book signing for Matt’s book “McQueen’s Machines: The Cars and Bikes of a Hollywood Icon” . In addition, thousands of dollars were raised by having a raffle featuring donations from a2z Racer Gear that included a replica of the famous Team Gulf Jacket worn by McQueen in the movie Le Mans, a couple of McQueen Le Mans tribute hats and a laminated version of the famous “2 Finger Poster” and “McQueen Le Mans Movie Poster”.

This event was an first effort by the Porsche 356 Club to put on a Concours of this magnitude and, having attended many hundreds of these events, I can say it was professionally executed and I hope the basis for additional gatherings.

The Lure Of Turquoise

Your Ad Here

Man has been fascinated by the stone turquoise for centuries and with good reason. This beautiful natural stone comes in colors ranging from sky blue to greenish yellow and has been used in jewelry as well as for it’s healing properties for centuries.

Turquoise is mined in China, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, and Persia. In North America, it is found in Arizona and New Mexico. The stone can be rather porous and chalky and is usually treated before it is suitable for use in jewelry. The stones are treated with a resinous substance to “stabilize” them. This treatment hardens the stone making it less susceptible to chipping and keeps the color from changing due to contact with the oils in your body.

Turquoise is also reputed to heal all kinds of ailments. New age healers use it for the skeletal, digestive and respiratory systems. It is said to help remove toxins from smoking and other pollutants from the body. The stone is also said to help improve your attitude as well as enhance creativity. It is reputed to bring you inner awareness and help strengthen friendships. Turquoise is reputed to help those who have trouble speaking in public, improve empathy and honesty.

One of the most beautiful types of turquoise is mined from the Sleeping Beauty Mine in Arizona. Called sleeping beauty turquoise after the name of the mine, these stones are a vivid sky blue color with no matrix to speak of. These beads and stones are well sought after for jewelry making and a favorite of the Zuni Pueblo silver makers who incorporate it into their traditional inlay jewelry.

Another popular turquoise is White Buffalo Turquoise which is mined from the Dry Creek Mine in Nevada and is a beautiful stone used in jewelry. Highly prized as the White Buffalo vein has only been found in one spot and once it’s gone there may never be new stones in this coloration again. The stones are a light turquoise with white colorations and dark veins. Not to be confused with howlite, White buffalo turquoise is not solid white in color.

Persian turquoise has been used in jewelry since ancient times and there are many mines in Iran that produce this beautiful stone. This turquoise can have a wide variety of color from sky blue to pale green. Ancient Persian carvings using turquoise have been found and it is evident that ancient jewelry was made with stones from these mines.

If you have turquoise jewelry or stones, you need to take special care to clean them since it is porous. Some people feel that there is an added value in vintage turquoise which has had years to develop a patina and excessive cleaning can destroy that value. The preferred means is to cleaning native turquoise is to gently wipe it with a soft cloth but there are instances where you may require more intense cleaning and our advice is to use warm soapy water. If the turquoise is set in a piece of jewelry you should avoid submerging it in anything liquid as it can seep into the fissures of the jewelry and cause deterioration years down the road.

One gentle method for cleaning turquoise is to dunk a Q-tip in warm soapy water and swab the jewelry with that – make sure you remove any soapy residue by swabbing again with a clean Q-tip dipped in clean water. Never clean your turquoise in ultrasonic or steam cleaners or use any type of chemical.

Peridot – Gemstone Found On Earth and Mars

Your Ad Here

What makes a Peridot unique? Peridot is found in a number of places on Earth. It can also be found on Mars. Peridot, or evening emerald as sometimes it is called, is the softest gemstone. This is probably why it is less popular than the other gemstones. It is vibrant green in color and is best seen at dusk. It is very refreshing to look at and it has a soothing and calming effect.

Peridot in History

Peridot is the gemstone for August. It is also the 16th anniversary gemstone. Ancients believed it to have the power to reduce a person’s anxiety, helps create a successful marriage, change dreams into reality, keeps away nightmares and evil spirits, and gives power to enable a person to communicate well. Peridot, when transparent, would come in variety of colors, ranging from light yellowish green to deep olive color. Like emeralds, the greener the color, the higher the value of a peridot stone.

Judging Peridot Quality

Peridot tends to be clearer than emerald and it comes in various shapes, sizes and hues. The quality is good and its value is higher if the texture and surface is clear and the color is deep green. It has a rather oily and greasy appearance. Like an emerald, a peridot could have bubbles, flaws and inclusions, so clarity is very important in looking for a good quality stone.

Care must be taken when using peridot as jewelry. It is a sensitive gemstone and can be damaged by improper use and care. Avoid excesses of temperature and be aware that acids and over use can damage the stone. However, Peridot is an exciting and fashionable gemstone that will enhance any person.

How Did Diamonds Come About?

Your Ad Here

It has long been known that the hardest substance to be found on the planet is the diamond. No matter where you might travel in the world, it is common knowledge that rare, expensive and highly prized diamonds are abundant, yet expensive. However, while people know the value of a diamond, fewer people know how diamonds are formed and why they are so greatly valued.

A diamond is actually a mineral and begins life as carbon which is then formed over many, many years. In order for the carbon deposits to form into one, the substance must be subjected to certain conditions that tempers and changes the mineral into the rare and beautiful gem. The first diamonds were recorded to have been discovered some 3000 years ago in India.

Since that era, diamonds have had a strong and lasting reputation for their splendor and intrinsic value and have been treasured by generations as symbols of virtue, fortune, refinement and even greatness. Diamond is a word that is from the Greek language, based on the word “adamas,” meaning unconquerable.

In fact, in many ancient civilizations, the diamonds were worn by warriors as they marched into battle to symbolize courage, strength and invincibility. This is just one of many examples of how the diamond has become such an integral part of culture, history and lore of many countries.

Today, the majority of the stones come from mines that are located in the countries of central and southern Africa. However, there are still significant numbers of the rare and precious gems that are mined in other parts of the world such as Brazil, Australia, Canada and Siberia, which boasts the single largest diamond mine in the world.

Anyone who has ever shopped for a diamond ring, earrings, or other jewelry are probably very well aware that the De Beers company controls a huge portion of this market. The stones must meet stringent quality standards and the De Beers company is one of the suppliers that is well known for the high quality of gems that they bring to the market. In fact, in some parts of the world, De Beers has even been accused on monopolizing the entire market because of the considerable control they have.

There is no doubt that the diamond is still one of the most desirable and treasured gems of any that are available. Virtually all high-end jewelry is embellished with a diamond or two, which immediately makes a statement about the person wearing such a fine piece of body jewelry. A diamond engagement ring is certainly considered to be the standard that symbolizes love, romance and commitment.

Diamonds will vary a great deal in price based upon on the quality classification of the gem. Four aspects are considered when evaluating the diamond’s value. These four characteristics are the Four “C”s and they are clarity, cut, color and carat.

Platinum Engagement Rings – Why Choose Platinum?

Your Ad Here

Platinum engagement rings are one of the most desired styles for a diamond engagement ring. Platinum as been used the creation of engagement rings has been a preferred choice for many years. The classic designs created by Tiffany & Co. were made from Platinum as the precious metal chosen by world renowned diamond houses around the globe. The reason for this metal’s use is three-fold. Firstly the metal is hard and secure, providing the security needed to safely hold the diamond. Secondly it is a very expensive and precious metal. The cost of extraction and scarcity of the metal along with the cost of extraction from the ore, makes this metal an extravagant luxury, perfect for engagement rings. Thirdly, the metal is naturally white. Unlike 18ct white gold which has to receive a final coat of Rhodium to provide the whiteness, Platinum engagement rings are naturally white and retain the colour. Many people think that Platinum will not scratch but this is not the case. The metal will mark and scratch like any other precious metal and will eventually wear to a natural finish. It can, however, be re-polished at any time. Neither the polishing nor scratches will reduce the metal in any way. Platinum is merely displaced, never worn away, unlike metals such as 9ct white gold which can wear over a long period of time.

Platinum engagement rings are much more expensive than the equivalent rings in gold and the metal requires particular knowledge and experience to work with. Platinum smiths are experienced with working with the unique physical characteristics of the metal and can produce intricate designs, crafted either by hand or designed using computers. The latter are responsible for many extremely detailed designs, brought to life by a process called rapid-prototyping. Computer designs are translated into physical wax replicas by computer and can be cast in Platinum and “given life.” After this, the diamonds can be set and the piece, finally polished. The casting process uses a centrifugal technique to force the platinum into the difficult to reach parts of the mould. There is a fair amount of work after this initial stage, to clean up the casting and prepare it for the further stages of hallmarking and setting.

As a perfect medium for engagement rings, Platinum has a very characteristic grey-whiteness and when polished, produces a blisteringly white, mirror like finish. This is perfect for white diamonds, since the whiteness of the setting harmonises with the whiteness of the diamond and actually helps blend in (and not stand out, as in the case of a yellow gold setting.) There is also no pollution with yellow light that reflects from yellow gold. In this way, there is little distraction from the focus of the ring, the white diamond, and the owner can rest assured that the diamond is firmly and safely held within the setting.

With other industries using Platinum in great quantities, such as the motor industry, some emerging markets in the Far East are responsible for a very large percentage of Platinum consumption. This Platinum never even reaches a piece of jewellery! It is used in the production of catalytic converters for vehicles and as a result of the demand; the price of Platinum has steadily increased over the last couple of years. Despite this, it is still the metal of choice and Platinum engagement rings are now in even more demand than every before.

Does a Replica Rolex Watch Make a Good Gift?

Your Ad Here

Whether it’s a replica Rolex or an Omega, replica watches can provide a perfect solution for anyone who can’t afford an authentic watch. With a new Rolex can cost upwards of $200,000, a replica can be found for under $200 with an amazingly wide variety of models and styles.

Because of this low price and the accuracy of today’s replica watches, you might wonder if they would make a good gift for a girlfriend, boyfriend, father or friend. In the past, there was a certain stigma about buying a replica watch. But with today’s economy and the growing trend towards saving money, they can provide people with a luxurious gift without breaking the bank.

What about the legality of your gift? While misrepresenting a replica Rolex as an authentic would be a serious crime, buying a watch that is clearly marketed as a replica does not cross this line. While there are plenty of unscrupulous people on the internet who try to pass replicas off as originals, an honest company will clearly state on their page that their watches are not authentic. A reputable site will also list the differences between a replica and an original Rolex, including the fact that they’re not water-resistant. You should never wear a replica watch while swimming or showering. They definitely take a little more care, but with an average savings of over 90%, taking off your watch before jumping into a bodies of water seems like a minor annoyance.

You might be wondering, “Won’t the person know that the watch I bought them was a replica?” and the answer is, of course, “Yes!” Unless you’re a movie star who routinely gives $20,000 gifts, whoever receives your gift will surely know that it’s a replica. While there will surely be people who don’t appreciate your gift, the majority will and will actually think of it as a pretty original and creative gift.

Most people have heard of replica watches, but never actually seen one. For them, not only seeing a replica in person but actually owning it will be a little thrill. Whether or not they go around telling people that it’s a replica or an authentic watch should be up to them.

The fact that a replica Rolex looks almost completely identical to an authentic Rolex is another reason that they’ll most likely love your gift. I’ve yet to meet a person, even someone who isn’t a big watch fan, that hasn’t wished they could own a luxury watch. But who wants to spend $20,000 on one? You could send your kid to college for that much.

So don’t be afraid to give a replica Rolex watch to someone for their birthday, Christmas, Mother’s Day or any other gift-giving occasion. While they’re not nearly as expensive as a real luxury watch, they’re high quality and a good mid-range gift to give.

Pearls Before Swine – Where Do Pearls Come From

Your Ad Here

Pearls, beautiful, lustrous, glowing pearls. And to think it all started with a grain of sand.

The mollusk, that’ s oyster to you and me, opens it’s shell to pass fresh water over itself and snag tiny bits of food. Sometimes what it snags is a grain of sand or piece of shell. If the mollusk can’t get rid of the bit of grit it begins to coat it with a substance it produces called nacre. Coating the grain of sand makes it less irritating. As time passes the grain is coated with many layers of nacre. Eventually you end up with a lustrous pearl.

Not all pearls are gem quality. The pearl can be lopsided, have an irregular surface, or the coloring of the pearl is grayish instead of glistening. If the irregularity is only on one side and the pearl looks good otherwise it can be set in jewelery with the flaw at the back of the piece where it won’t be noticed.

Pearls can be from fresh water or salt water mollusks. Salt water is more expensive.

Colors range from white, yellow, pink, to gray. South Sea Pearls, sometimes called Tahitian pearls, are some of the most expensive pearls. They are larger, because the mollusk is larger, and the colors are iridescent black, purple, and dark gray. The pearl looks like a rainbow is playing against the dark surface.

Natural pearls are very expensive and difficult to find in jewelry since the Japanese began culturing pearls. Cultured pearls are simply oysters in an oyster bed that has been seeded with a nucleus.

Good cultered pearls have been left in the oyster over several years to build up layers of the pearl. Cheap cultured pearls start with a much bigger seed core and then left in the oyster only long enough to gather a few layers. Those layers can wear off.

The value of a pearl is based on 5 factors: cleanliness, shape, luster and orient, and color.

Cushion Cut Diamond Engagement Ring

Your Ad Here

Cushion cut diamond engagement ring in the older days was named pillow cut. For this type as its name suggest, resembles that of a plump cushion or pillow. This cut comes in varieties of proportions. They could either be oval, square or rectangular with rounded corners.

This type of cut gained popularity in the latter part of the 1800’s until the early 1900’s. Before the dawn of electric bulbs, cushion cut diamond ring was also referred to as candlelight diamond because it was said to be most brilliant in candlelight.

In the modern day setting, cushion cut diamond rings are more symmetrical than its older contemporaries, mainly due to the advent of modern refinements and upgraded lapidary skills. Though this may be the case, couples prefer older versions of cushion cuts and still searches for this kind in the antique or vintage market.

These type of rings work best as alternative for couples who prefer traditional, subtle designs. These stype of rings are still rare in modern rings.

Cushion cuts are best in solitaires, the kind that draw the attention to the gemstone located at the center of the ring. Many women however, prefer small accent stones incorporated in the ring.

This type of ring has about 60 facets; this is 20 or more facets less than the modern rings. Facet refers to the smooth, polished planes that make up a stone’s surface. With lesser number of facets as compared to fancy shapes and signature cuts, it exhibits lesser brilliance.

But this characteristic, precisely adds to its unique appeal that sets the diamond ring apart from its modern contemporaries for it provides a certain depth to the diamonds, allowing a person to see through it – revealing its unpretentious beauty.

The next time you invite your partner for a romantic candlelight dinner; consider a cushion cut diamond engagement ring to go with it?
